Enthralling memoir Ordinarily Extraordinary hits International Best Seller status on Amazon, receiving rave reviews and heartfelt feedback of deep impact on readers.

“This has shockingly grown much bigger than me,” Patrick P. Long, the author, said. “At a recent book signing, people were in tears, thanking me and saying how it will help so many people. I was afraid readers would think I am a jerk for revealing some of the thoughts and feelings; but, instead, I’m receiving tremendous gratitude. One reader is a self-proclaimed loner who drove from Kentucky to St. Louis and said the book made him realize what a mistake he made being a recluse for years.”

Patrick P. Long’s debut novel is a memoir that captures the hearts and minds of readers. Depicting the true story of the final few weeks of his wife’s battle with breast cancer, the story candidly reflects on marital turmoil, personal trauma, deeply held secrets, failures, and regrets. It quickly reached #1 international best-seller status in multiple categories and countries on Amazon. The story resonates with readers on many levels.  At the launch of his paperback novel, hundreds of socially distanced and masked readers showed up to get their signed copy, and many shared their feedback after already reading the e-book.

In the story, Patrick focuses on setting a positive tone for his family after his wife, Melanie, passes. Despite losing his wife, best friend, and mother of their four young children, he rejects pity and finds inspiration in the extraordinary community surrounding them, even as life continues to beset him with ordeals that continuously challenge living by that positive tone.

While an emotionally raw and tragic story of love and friendship, readers find it surprisingly uplifting and a realistic admission of the complexities of marriage, relationships, and overcoming personal turmoil, and they say it’s a book they can’t put down. Interspersed with backstories to enable the reader to see the events through his eyes, the book weaves together layers of life experiences that readers relate to and appreciate on unexpected levels, including finding it hilarious at times.

In appreciation of the amazing support the Long family received from the American Cancer Society and Camp Kesem, Long donates a percentage of all proceeds from the book to these organizations. He donated the proceeds from the book launch to the St. Louis University chapter of Camp Kesem, raising over $2,000 for its local chapter of a national organization that supports children who have a parent impacted by cancer.

Readers find the book a unique and rare look into the life, thoughts, and feelings of a husband and father coping with tragedy and seeking a new normal for his family.
